“My daughter in 4th grade adopted this as her practice in life.  It cost her dearly. She was a very popular young girl. She was friends with all the kids. The cool kids really liked her. One day she realized these ‘cool girls’ were bullying and name-calling some other girls.

She asked them to stop. They wouldn’t. Then she told them she would rather be friends with the girls they bullied than to be their friend if that’s how they treated others. Everyone could get along. They refused. She opted to play and hang out with the bullied girls.

As a result she was bullied all the way up through High School graduation and even beyond. All because she chose to stand with a group of girls who were being bullied in 4th grade rather than hang out with the bullies who taunted them. She took responsibility.

She is, and was, a remarkable person. She knew in her heart what the right course of action was. Uplift and support instead of tear down and harm. I was proud of her then and now. She willingly sacrificed her comfort to do the right thing. It was a hard road and took its toll on her. Still, she took responsibility for her actions and saw it through. I love and adore her.
