“You may be limiting yourself. You may be preventing yourself from living the life you want to live! Do you know this? Some people know they’re not being, doing, or having the things they want but they can’t figure out why? They blame everything and everyone. They make excuses and rationalize. What they don’t often do is look at what they are doing that keeps them from having a good life. Yes, they may blame themselves too.

That doesn’t work. You must examine and reflect and decide to make changes. Blaming yourself only makes things worse. You should find out if what you are doing OR not doing is keeping you from your dreams and goals and from living a good or better life right now. Neuroscience, psychology, philosophy and religion tells us we’ve a voice inside us that is critical. They tell us we can change this voice, if only we will. Some people do. Some don’t.

Another aspect of this same issue is not just the words and tone we use within. It’s not just the sentences we silently or out loud utter repeatedly. It is also the story we tell ourselves. It is what we say and see about ourselves, our past, present and future and our role or place in the world. It’s the story we tell ourselves about life and the world. What is your story? What are you telling others about who you are and what your day is like?

Become aware of the story you believe. Become aware of what you think is the case. Notice your story that you think and repeat. Think about the story you want versus the story you keep telling. This story shapes up. It holds us back and makes us despair or it inspires us and helps move us forward. What is your story? Consider this. It is your story. You are the author of it. You have been its guardian. You can choose how you want it to unfold.

You can change it. Adapt it. Edit and revise it. You can tell a different and better story. Write the story you want to live and then live the story you wrote. Keep writing. Keep writing it better and better. Live from the new, better story.  Carefully choose the story you want to tell because what you think, say to yourself and to others during your day is keeping you in your current reality. What you relive in your mind and stay out loud is who you are.

If you talk about being stuck, you remain stuck. People spend much of their time regurgitating what has happened. They share all their disappointments and failures. They relive repeatedly the miseries from their past and present and wonder why they can’t get away from them. You won’t get rich thinking about and talking about being poor. You don’t get positive by thinking negative. You can’t move forward looking backward. Do nothing, nothing changes.

What you repeatedly think about and tell others is what makes up your present reality. To get away from that less-than-glorious existence you must tell the story that you want to be living. You need to focus on the little things that you are grateful for. It is far more powerful and life changing to find and be thankful for something tiny than to be insincere in your gratitude. Discuss blessings, solutions, and positive aspects of daily living.

Share how you look for and find solutions. Remember how you did get over a problem and what did do that made a difference without spending time focused on the problem itself. Think about how your life IS the way you want to be. Think and feel what you would be feeling and doing if life were perfect. You don’t have to tell others you have or are doing things you aren’t yet. But within, live from the feeling of the wish fulfilled. Rewrite your history and future.

When speaking to others instead of griping about how things are. Share what is good. Discov er the lessons from the past and embrace them. Expect the present and future to be good. Find the good and accentuate it. Eliminate the negative from your thoughts and conversations. Steer your mind to where it is good to go. Steer yourself into the positive and what you are grateful for. Shift away from the not-so-go to the good. Write your life the way you’d like to be living it. We live out what we believe and tell ourselves so live the best version of you possible. Spread love and joy throughout. Find joy and share it. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
