“I’ve been a student of ancient texts, western and eastern for most of my life. It seems to me that most people pray wrong. This may be a controversial statement but from everything I know and understand praying is not begging. Most people beg. They ask for corrections. They ask for changes. They ask for healing. They plead. Beg. They bargain. They threaten. They attempt to get their way.

Prayer is a celebration. It is celebrating. Prayer is an attitude of gratitude and blessing. In an English translation of a paraphrased Bible verse it states, ‘Ask, believing you shall receive, and you will receive’. The key to receiving is not in the asking. The key is in believing you will receive. It means you have decided it is yours already. If it’s already yours, you don’t have to ask. Get it? I hope so.

Begging and pleading hasn’t done much for many people. Many ask for prayers when something is wrong. They focus on getting a solution to what the problem is; lack of health, wealth, well-being for self or loved ones. They beg. They ask harder when something is wrong. They hope things will change. They ask others to do the same for them. I don’t blame them. It makes sense.

Do nothing and nothing changes!

Just as little kids plead with adults for things, we plead our case for a hoped for result. The focus ends up being on the problem and that IS the problem with how most are praying. You get what you focus on. What you focus on expands. If you focus on dog crap you notice more dog crap and get more dog crap. Focus on diamonds and you notice more diamonds and get more diamonds.

Prayer is meant to give thanks for everything. It is knowing and trusting that all good things come to those who trust. It comes to those who have faith. Another verse states, ‘every person has already received a portion of faith’ so it isn’t something you have to muster up. You already have it within you. Exercise it. Praise. Celebrate. Edify. Uplift. Celebrate what you want as though you have it now.

Lift up your voices. Sing. Give thanks. Do a happy dance. Stand on the promise. If you ask, ask believing you have received and you will receive. So, be thankful. Stop wanting. It’s already yours. You just don’t see it yet because you don’t believe it yet. Get it? Trust. Believe. Develop the faith and the certainty. It’s invisible to you but will be made visible when you believe it. So, give thanks for it and it will become visible. Celebrate it and it will become visible. WHY? Because you aren’t wanting it. You are owning it. It’s yours already. Claim it. Stand on it. Celebrate it. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
