“What creates emotional or mental pain? Why do you suffer? Must you suffer or can you do something about it or? Yes, you can do something about it! There may always be some pain because it is a wired-in survival mechanism. It is a signal something is amiss.
It’s protective. We’re wired to experience pain to stop and heal, to recognize what is wrong and address it to prevent further injury and suffering. When something hurts some linger or wallow in it, blaming and complaining, and they go right down the drain in it.
How one reacts to pain is how one reacts. It absolutely can be difficult. Still, complaining tends to perpetuate the very thing you wish to escape from. There’s always a choice. It may not seem as if there is, but there is something you can do.
We Become What We Think About Most Of Our Time
Choose to learn from it. Understand it. Find out what the signal is telling you. Accept it and begin to shift away from it. Become aware we often create our own pain. When we compare ourselves to others we often suffer. We need to stop making ourselves hurt.
It’s a very common cause and the one we’ll discuss. When we compare ourselves to others; how tall or short we are, fat or thin, good looking or not so good looking, how rich or poor or what kind of things they have that we don’t, we may suffer.
When we try to keep up with the Jones we may feel bad. These comparisons don’t serve us. If you feel bad when you compare to others realize you are making yourself feel bad. There is another way to be. Put your focus on things that serve you better.
What We Focus on Expands – Choose Wisely
It may seem to be motivating to want to do better than someone else. Frequently, it results in someone striving constantly to outdo others. This type of person may never stop and actually be happy. If you wish to get ahead be smart about it. Don’t do more damage.
If we compare where we are to where we want to be and feel the distance is too great we may suffer or quit. BUT, if we see how far we have come, and that each step brings us closer, we may be eager with anticipation. What you do with the comparison matters!
If you look at what you don’t have yet, why you don’t have it, and the length of time it might take you to get it, most likely you’ll suffer. If you choose to be grateful for what you have, where you are, and that every day there can be a slight improvement, you enjoy life more.
The More We Do The More We Become Capable Of Doing
It’s up to you where you decide to put your attention. Some focus on the half-empty glass and complain there’s never enough? Things aren’t good enough? Complaining brings more for you to complain about. If you want things to be better, focus on the good you have.
If you’ll live, love and laugh and drop the comparisons that cause you to suffer you’ll find more things to enjoy and be grateful for. Attitude and mindset is everything! Start appreciating and accepting. Recognize you’re surrounded by good and feel better.
Be filled with gratitude for who you are, what you are, how you are, when you are, and where you are because that is what is. Everything is perfect right at this moment. You can’t be short if your feet reach the ground. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
