“We aren’t passive in the universe. We actively create reality. We project into or onto reality from our inner thoughts and feelings biasing what we notice and what we create. Plus, we filter out aspects of ‘out there’ through neurological filters. Consciously, we attend to very little of what’s going on around us, and within us. Our reality is a construction. It’s not what it is, but what we think it is.
Here are a few statements from neuroscientists and others.
‘Our minds aren’t passive observers simply perceiving reality as it is; our minds actually change reality. In other words, the reality we will experience tomorrow is in part a product of the mindsets we hold today… “We don’t just passively perceive the world; we actively generate it. The world we experience comes as much, if not more, from the inside out as from the outside in.’ Alia Crum, Stanford
Anais Nin wrote, “We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are,” – Anais Nin and Moshe Bar, neuroscientist at Bar-Ilan University in Israel stated, ‘We see what we predict, rather than what’s out there.’ When we learn that what we hold in our mind matters we have more power and behavioral flexibility to make positive changes. We need not be stuck in our routine, patterned habitual thinking.

That is why Henry Ford said, ‘If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you are right.’ What you think determines whether you think something is impossible or possible. If it is thought to be impossible it is likely you won’t attempt to change it. If you think it is possible then perhaps you could change it. If you could then perhaps you will. If you can’t, you won’t but if you can, you might. Get it?
What you think matters and determines how far you will go. If you think it is over and lost before you begin, it’s not likely you will. If you think the universe or world around you is cold, uncaring and unfriendly, your relationship with it and perhaps others are bound to be very different from one who thinks it’s a warm, caring, friendly one. ‘Thinking makes it so.’ Understand the next comment well.
‘There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge,’ said Napoleon Hill who also said, ‘Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.’ That means you achieve good or not-so-good. It’s proven if you believe yourself to be sick you can make yourself sick. Some people have a more difficult time believing if you can make yourself sick you can ALSO make yourself well.

We have awesome power in our thoughts and our ability to manage our thinking. Einstein said, ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Your imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.’ Carl Sagan said, ‘Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were, but without it we go nowhere.’ So true.
Picasso pointed out, ‘Everything you can imagine is real.’ and Thoreau said, ‘The world is but a canvas to the imagination.’ ‘What is now proved was once only imagined,’ states William Blake. Everything that humans have created or accomplished once began inside someone’s mind as an idea. That person imagined something new and different. They solved a problem and created a solution. Get it?
Thinking makes it so. Whatever you think about you bring about. What you can hold in your head you can one day hold in your hand. What you focus on expands. You become what you think about most often and most intensely. Worry is only negative planning. Norman Vincent Peale said, ‘Imagination is the true magic carpet.’ Steven Covey said, ‘live out of your imagination not your history.’

The only limitations that exist are those we acknowledge. What if we don’t acknowledge them? Can we? Ford said, if you think you can or can’t, you are correct. ‘The power of imagination created the illusion that my vision went much farther than the naked eye could actually see,’ claimed Nelson Mandela. A great quote is this from Hayao Miyazaki. ‘Reality is for people that lack imagination.’
Seneca stated, ‘We are more often frightened than hurt, and we suffer more from imagination than reality.’ ‘Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.’ Oscar Wilde. ‘The best use of imagination is creativity,’ states Deepak Chopra. Author Colin Wilson wrote, ‘Imagination should be used, not to escape reality but to create it.’ We’ve so much power to live positively!
‘True change takes place in the imagination’ Thomas Moore George Bernard Shaw reminds us, ‘Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will.’ ‘Go confidently in the direction of your dreams,’ says Thoreau, ‘and live the life you imagined.’ Someone said, ‘Don’t set limits on your unlimited potential!’ Get this.

Paulo Coelho says, ‘You only know yourself when you go beyond your limits.’ And M. Scott Peck said, ‘One extends one’s limits by exceeding them.’ Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps states, ‘you can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.’ And Wayne Dyer repeated Hill in stating, ‘The only limits you have are the limits you believe.’ Nike says, ‘Just do it.’
Author Arthur Clarke suggests ‘The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture way past them into the impossible.’ Michael Jordan says ‘limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.’ ‘It’s really important to understand we’re not seeing reality,’ says neuroscientist researcher Patrick Cavanagh, a at Dartmouth College ‘We’re seeing a story that’s being created for us.’ Understand?
You have so much incredible power within you. You are infinite potential, possibilities, opportunities, and resources thinking somehow you are not enough and are limited by whatever you think limits you. For more than 40 years I’ve queried participants in live event seminars and workshops with this, ‘What is it that stops most people?’ Answers are varied but the truth is a thought. A thought!

Most people stop, or don’t even try something because of their thoughts. What is a thought? Energy. It’s not a thing or matter. Not yet at least. It’s a packet of electrochemical energy. Yet it’s so powerful as to stop a truly strong person. What is a belief? A thought we repeatedly think and accept as true. It may not be, but we think it is. We speak as if it is and act as if it is. Imagine that! Stopped by this.
We can conceive bad things and illness and bring them about. ‘For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.’ exclaimed Job. Job 3:25 KJV Here’s another translation: ‘What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.’ NIV Remember, what we think about we tend to bring about whether good or not-so-good. Thoughts!
We create stories, beliefs, expectations, worries, fears and live them out. They’re not necessarily real at all but because we think and act as if they are, they are in fact real to us. We create reality. Much of the time our brain does match what is going on out there. However, we still generate stories and draw conclusions. Humans after all are meaning makers. We find, make and assign meaning to things.

We do this about others, events and circumstances. We do it automatically and habitually based on the stories we adopted, believed about yourself, others, events and the world. We don’t like to be wrong when confronted with opposing views, experience or information. It creates discomfort called Cognitive Dissonance that results from holding two conflicting beliefs, values, or attitudes.
We seek consistency of our beliefs and values, so this conflict causes unpleasant feelings and discomfort which we attempt to minimize or relive by doing what WE THINK is right. We reject or explain away circumstances, others, explanations or new information and adhere to what we already believe and accept. We don’t like the tension caused by ideas conflicting with outs.
Since we don’t like inconsistency, we tend to look for those ideas, others and things we already agree with and believe. So, we seek Confirmation Bias which is defined as the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one’s prior beliefs or values. Most are familiar with this in relation to arguments but we cherry pick everything to agree with us.

Researchers say (I paraphrased this quote) we display this bias when selecting information that supports our views while ignoring information to the contrary, or when we interpret any ambiguous evidence to support our existing attitudes. ‘The effect is strongest for desired outcomes, for emotionally charged issues, and for deeply entrenched beliefs.’ We don’t want to be wrong!
We are truly magical. We can and do distort reality and suffer. We can and could distort reality to benefit. We can do both. Which we do most often determines the quality of life we live. You and I have amazing mental powers but mostly use them for pain and suffering inside ourselves or between people. We assign meaning to arguments, behaviors, looks people give us and our own behaviors.
We repeat our broken history stories and carry the baggage of old wounds around because of what we think and believe. If you think you are a victim, you are. If you think you are no good, you are no good, even though that isn’t accurate. Get it? If it is true for you, it is true for you. That IS the nature of subjective reality. It is YOUR reality. AND you’ve a tool to transform it if and when you choose.

You can take control of the thinking process. You can manage your thoughts, feelings, the words you say to yourself and others and behaviors to create and live the kind of life you desire. How? It begins as an idea. It begins with I can learn to learn anything. I am already a good learner. I’ve learned many good things and many useless things. I can learn to think, feel, speak and behave how I want.
Get it. Your thinking makes it so. Do nothing and nothing changes. The necessary sequence goes from Impossible to possible. From I can’t to I can. From I can to I will. From I will to I am. ‘I am learning it.’ ‘I am doing it.’ ‘I am making money.’ To I have done it or I did it. Done! Compete, NEXT!!! The process repeats. Creation and attraction is a process moving from the non-real to the real. Get it.
From idea to ideal. From ideal to real. You stop stopping yourself and move forward to completion. How? You activate your attitude and everything transforms. From within to without. You use your inner reality to make the outer reality conform more to your liking. If the outer reality doesn’t change but YOU change, you navigate it differently than you were doing. You more powerful and positive.
