“One needs to behave and learn as an infant does. The infant doesn’t know any fancy words like confidence or competence. The infant just keeps doing it until it becomes a successful habit! That’s how you learned to crawl, walk, feed yourself, talk and do anything.
It’s how you learned to do everything from birth through toddler. You did things without judgement. You learned to roll over, sit up, balance, crawl, walk, and feed yourself all without instruction or self-criticism. You just kept doing until you did it! You made it habit.
Imagine where you’d be if you’d given up anywhere along the line. What if you’d quit? Imagine what would have been the outcome had you thought ‘this is too hard. I can’t continue.’ What if you thought, ‘I’m not good enough to feed myself. I can never do this.’
Don’t Be Pushed By Your Problems – Be Led By Your Dreams
You didn’t judge or assess how difficult or how long things would take. You simply kept doing it repeatedly until you could. It didn’t matter how difficult. You kept doing it! At about the toddler stage the influences around you helped you to not be so tenacious.
You learned about ‘failure’ and ‘success’. You learned there were consequences and punishments and reasons to not do things. You learned how to get away with things. You learn defeat. You learned competition with others. You learned to lie to save face.
You learned to fudge results. You learned insecurity about doing. You became performance-conscious, self-conscious, and insecure. You learned to lack confidence. You learned to feel bad, shame or guilt over what you did or didn’t do. You made yourself wrong.
99% Of Everything You Do – You Learned Through Conditioning
You learned to worry, feel anxious or fear the future. You learned by words spoken to you, by example, by punishment, from authorities, peers and media. You learned to feel inadequate, to cover up. You learned to over-compensate. You learned to feel bad! Get it?
Prior to that there was no such thing as defeat. You just did it until you could do it! You mastered many major skills without thinking about it. You didn’t read books or need to get pumped up. You didn’t whine or complain. You just performed endlessly until you ‘got it’!
You were conditioned out of being tenacious and learned to be afraid. You gave away your power. That’s what happened back then. You can continue to whine, complain, make excuses and blame those who did their part to raise you or you can choose to change yourself.
Know That You Can Do It And You Can Become Unstoppable
Consider this: Some people assert confidently they have no, or need, confidence. Some people are confident they don’t have any! They’ll boldly exclaim they’re certain they have none. Do you get this? ‘I’m confident I have no confidence!’ They’re certain. Silly, right?
Consider this: Worry is negative planning for the future: fearing what may occur. Some people are certain things won’t work out. They are confident circumstances will be negative. Just as they’re certain they lack abilities or opportunities. Get it? Do you?
You can affirm something in the positive or you can affirm something in the negative. You can be certain things will work out or that they won’t work out. Confidence that you can is the same as confidence that you can’t! There is no difference in the feeling of certainty.
Follow Your Dreams – Believe In Yourself – Never Give Up
However, one form of confidence results in being able to do something positively, while the other results in you positively being unable to do something! One makes you feel good. The other makes you feel bad. Yet, some people are comfortable feeling bad.
So they don’t change. Aim your confidence at what you want to do in a positive way! This is how to use the feeling of confidence positively. Become confident. Believe that you can learn what to do bit by bit. Do it in steps and your confidence will increase too.
You’re in the process of discovering, learning, starting to gain skill in an area. As you gain the skill your confidence in your abilities will go hand in hand. Keep the faith that you can learn and you can master it. Keep doing it correctly, repeatedly, consistently for long enough and you will master the skill. Choose to learn and feel confident along the way. Notice your progress. Nurture it. Pat yourself on the back and celebrate it. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
