“If you can’t sleep at night it’s because you aren’t doing those things that promote sleep during the day. If you’re awake at night you didn’t play hard enough in the daylight. More movement is required. Walk, jog, exercise. Dance, skip, play tennis. Swim. DO something!
It’s like letting the dogs out to play. The more play time the more sleep time. We evolved as hunters and gatherers walking the plains, climbing trees. Now we sit and watch TV, work on a computer, email etc., in artificial light instead of playing outdoors in sunshine.
The same problem applies to kids in school labeled with ADD. They don’t get enough recess and gym time as they used to years ago. So they fidget, are bored, distracted and may misbehave. They, we, need to move more and move a lot! We need to stimulate ourselves more.
Change Your Thoughts To Transform Your Life
Move more to sleep better. Diet is important too. If you eat foods that wake you up at night you may not go to sleep with great ease. You need to eat those things that help you relax and sleep. Find out what is right for you. Drink more water during the day. Turn off light.
Sleep in darkness. No light. Even clock radio light can disturb. Stop all electronics an hour before bedtime. Blue light from screens disturbs sleep. Listen to white noise or calming music. Keep room cool. Heat makes sleeping more difficult. Maybe get fresh air.
Create daylight and bedtime routines. Wake up and go to bed at same time. Use bed only for sleep. Don’t work or watch TV. Anchor sleep to sleep time and your bed. Take a bath. Meditate BUT don’t sleep before you sleep. You may wake up refreshed instead.
You Will Transform Your Life When You Change Your Thoughts
If you nap prior to going to bed you may wake yourself up instead of putting yourself to sleep. If you fall asleep in earlier evening you may awaken alert later in evening and have trouble getting back to sleep. Get it? Develop good sleep rituals or routine and hygiene.
Clear your mind of stress and worry. Relax. Focus on your blessings and the good in your life. Create ease. Imagine relaxing out in nature. Talk a walk on a calm beach or safe forest in your mind. Let go. Release. Breathe. Count sheep. Calmly notice your breathing.
Slow down. Release. Use self hypnosis and progressive muscle relaxation. Learn to let go of wakefulness and move into sleepiness. It’s simple. Keep this in mind: when you’re tired enough you’ll sleep naturally. So, play more. Tire yourself out in positive ways. Good night. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes

“This may be the wisest, more realistic, and most helpful book I’ve come across. I’ve been a self-help book addict for at least five decades, and I’ve read many of the greats. This is up there with the greats and maybe beyond. Besides extraordinary insights, the style is accessible and compelling. I loved LIFE ON YOUR TERMS.
