“Who do you imagine yourself to be? What do you say about who you are? What do you think, say, and visualize about your past, present, and future accomplishments? The truth is, what you think about, you bring about. So, what are you telling yourself, consciously and subconsciously, every day? Whatever it is, you’re likely fulfilling it without even realizing. Your habitual thoughts and assertions become self-fulfilling prophecy! Get this. Garbage In Garbage Out!
If you want lasting, positive change, you need to work with your internal system, not against it. The affirmations you’ve been repeating to yourself, often without realizing, could be keeping you stuck. Those limiting “I” statements about what you can’t do or who you think you are may be holding you back. What you hold in your mind, you hold in your hand. Welcome back. I’m so glad you are here. If your computer isn’t working, you fix it. Right? Same here.
Maxwell Maltz suggested a simple but powerful practice: spend time each day visualizing yourself as the person you want to be. He recommended imagining your goals as already complete, seeing yourself as though the changes you want are already a part of your life. Picture yourself living the life you dream of, as if it’s happening right now. Again, I repeat, See yourself as you want to be. See your ideal self. See yourself ‘as if’ you are already that! Practice this!

The key is to imagine this in as much detail as possible. Visualize not just what you look like, but how you feel, how you act, and how others respond to you. Create a vivid picture of yourself living your ideal life and embrace it as your reality right now. By doing so, you’re programming your brain to accept this as truth. This works because the brain can’t distinguish between a vividly imagined event and a real one. I’ve shared this research in previous blogs.
If you haven’t already, go back and re-read some of them. These principles are powerful, and when practiced consistently, will help you turn your dreams into reality. Make time for daily visualization. Program that mind of yours with good stuff so good stuff comes from it. Get it? Spend a few minutes each day, morning and night, visualizing your ideal self and life as though it’s already accomplished. Fully immerse yourself in the feelings that come with this.
Experience the joy, satisfaction, and confidence that would accompany having achieved your goals. These positive emotions, combined with new mental imagery, communicate directly with your subconscious, telling it, ‘This is who I am.’ This practice isn’t new. From ancient mystics on, visualization has been a core technique for personal transformation. While it may be new to you, it’s been around and working for centuries. It’s proven effective.

If it’s positive and aligned with your goals, you’ll get that instead. The key is intention. You must consciously choose to focus on positive outcomes, amplifying your good feelings and intentions in the process. This is why I began this discussion with the kind of less-than-glorious self-talk most of us utter. Those statements tip us off to what the image is that we have of ourselves. That’s why you want to notice and change them. It applies to your inner images too.
The more you focus on feeling good about yourself and your future, the more your subconscious works to make that vision your reality.
