“Are there some behaviors or habits you’d like to cut down or eliminate completely? Do you want to make some positive behavioral changes? Would you like to keep the positive changes and make those habits? Could you use more self-control? If you answered yes to these questions, there’s a simple thing you can do. First, keep in mind what you hold in your mind is important.
Your thoughts matter. Everything first begins with your thoughts. Some thoughts you speak to yourself. Silently and out loud to others. What you think and say is crucial. It determines what you think you can and can’t do and what you will and won’t do. You become what you think about most often. Understand your first action is to correct your thinking. Think positively and powerfully.
You’re either optimistic, hopeful, positive and certain you can and will make good things happen or you are fearful, worried, negative and less likely to make positive changes based on what you think. To take charge and become your own best friend you must take responsibility for the behavior you want to stop or start. Don’t criticize yourself for doing it. Instead, decide to do something about it.

Realize if you’re going to stop it YOU are going to stop it. If it’s going to happen it will be up to you! It’s not up to anyone else. You must stop playing the victim of the behavior and realize you’re the person who performs them. You decide whether you’ll do something. You’re in charge. Stop thinking and saying you can’t help it, or that you can’t stop it. What you say IS what you get. It’s affirming.
If you can’t do something it means you are powerless. You want to and need to claim your power. If you want and need to become more powerful YOU must begin to think of yourself as powerful. You must see yourself and tell yourself that you’re in charge. Act like someone in charge. You must convince yourself. That may take a bit of time, but it is possible only if you do what’s required of you.
You want to develop a mindset that you can and will do what you want. You can and will do what you say you will. You will keep your word. You must begin to imagine yourself as capable. Conceive it and work on believing it. Researchers conclude people who say ‘I don’t’ instead of ‘I can’t’ had more positive behavior changes because they had more self-control. Why? Because you assume control.

If you think and say, ‘I don’t eat chips’ instead of ‘I can’t stop eating chips’ the difference is twofold. First, you become a person who does not engage in the behavior. You are a person in power and control. That is part of your identity. Second, because of the first reason, the behavior does not control or determine your future. YOU do. You determine your future. You decide and follow through.
When you’re not the type of person who does something, you don’t do it. When you’re in charge, when you have control, when you make the decisions, everything is different. Become a person who is in charge. Stop letting behaviors determine what you’re able to do. I prefer to think what I do instead of what I don’t do. You may want to use this because it is powerful in programming yourself.
For example, you cannot tell a computer what it is not supposed to do. You tell it what it is to do. It follows the orders it is programmed to do. The brain works similarly. Tell it what to do, not what it shouldn’t do, and your job is much easier. You learn new behaviors quickly. So, feel free to add that you ARE the kind of person who does control behaviors. YOU make decisions and stick to them.

Oversee what you eat or other habits. List what you will eat. Decide what you’ll eat more of. Get it? You control your behaviors. How you think about yourself, what you say about yourself and capabilities has great impact on you and what you’re able to do. Thoughts lead to actions. Govern your thoughts and words and you CAN govern your behaviors. Oversee your life.
Be the captain of your life and soul. Be the master of your fate. Think and say those things that move you forward. Affirm what you want. Affirm what you will. Stop affirming what you can’t and won’t. Think and say only those things that heal, bless, prosper, inspire, uplift and edify yourself and others. Realize who you are. Decide who you are and what you will accomplish. Think it, say it, claim it! BE IT. Take charge of yourself. Become in charge of your life. Oversee the results you get. Transform yourself by the renewing of your mind. Make things happen while attracting goodness to yourself and for others. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
