“One of the areas people have difficulty with when it comes to affirmations is creating conflict. They look in the mirror and exclaim ‘I’m my ideal weight!’ The micro looks back, blows a raspberry and exclaims, ‘No, you’re not, you fat slob!’ Some people don’t want to affirm because this happens. They affirm, ‘I’m smart.’ but feel stupid and bad. They feel if they affirm good, they’d be lying to themselves. Understand?
Perhaps, that’s you. It was me. That’s when I discovered and developed Directed Questions™ which you can read more about by searching this blog site or by enrolling in one of my programs. Questions direct your mind gently, easily and quickly towards what you want without the conflict. I wrote an article many years ago, Why Affirmations Don’t Work. That said, I’d like to point out something significant.
When you get a negative reaction or abreaction, understand this. That negative feeling, thought or response is a gift to you from you. You are having the feeling so you can recognize what to let go of so you can move forward and feel better. That unwanted feeling is the signal, the alert from you to you so you can change whatever is holding you back. It’s illuminating the issue for you.
DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF
This is great news. While it may be uncomfortable to experience the thoughts and feelings you don’t like YOU are feeling it so you can drop it. YOU are feeling it because it’s showing you, HERE is what you need to address and release. It’s a gift. It’s a gift. It’s a gift. BUT since most people don’t like feeling uncomfortable, instead of examining it and releasing it, they attempt to escape that very feeling.
When you do that, you only prolong the difficulty. If you do nothing, nothing changes. You got an important LOVING message from yourself, HEY CHANGE THIS, but instead you ignore it, resist it, fight it, deny it, deflect it, or distract yourself from it. None of that helps but perpetuates the problem. Better to investigate it and affirm the discovery. ‘I am learning there is something I can release and let go.’
Or learn to ask Directed Questions™ to move ahead while making a positive change. You aren’t meant to focus on that uncomfortable feeling and wallow and go down a rabbit hole of despair but are meant to use the signal, the gift to transform yourself. That’s why I encourage you to only speak to bless, edify, heal, inspire, prosper, transform and uplift. Accentuate the positive and you get more.
DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF
Turn the negative reaction you got into a new positive response. Shift from the negative to the positive. Create a new positive affirmation or question. Repeat the new positive affirmation consistently and for long enough until it becomes a new reliable habit. Remember, you wire in new thoughts and feelings, speech and behaviors thought correct, consistent, spaced repetition for a long enough time.
Think instead, ‘I am discovering I deserve all sorts of good feelings in my life. I can learn and enjoy much more by allowing myself to celebrate all things in my life. I am so grateful I noticed this and am learning to appreciate who I am and what I can do. I love myself more and more each moment. Good things always come my way. I deserve love, peace and goodness. I am smart enough to recognize when I need to make some changes. Thank you for being you. I love you. I accept myself. I love myself.’ Get it? This is how you begin to activate your attitude. Attitude is everything. Celebration is everything. When you celebrate, everything can transform. So, resist nothing and celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
