“I’ve been discussing how to recognize signals that are less-than-glorious so you can shift from them and keep your energy and your vibe high. After becoming aware of the signals SO you can shift, the next thing you do IS shift! Once you notice these negative feelings, you have the power to redirect your focus. Here’s how: Name the negative feeling and redirect. First, acknowledge the feeling. Then take a deep breath.

Consciously choose to shift focus. Ask, ‘What do I want instead?’ For example, if you feel anxious about an upcoming deadline, shift your focus to the result you desire: a well-executed project that you’re proud of. Ramp up the positive emotion through intensity. In moments of intense frustration, sometimes pushing that feeling to its peak can lead to a breakthrough. Often, reaching a point of ‘I’ve had enough of this!’ signals a turning point.

Use this intensity as motivation to commit to focusing on solutions and positive outcomes instead. Celebrate small shifts. Every time you notice switching from a negative thought to a positive one, celebrate it! Give yourself credit for making the shift. This reinforces the habit of focusing on the positive and makes it easier to repeat. Visualize positive outcomes regularly Take a few minutes daily to imagine your ideal day, week, or life.

DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF

Picture yourself experiencing the things you want, engaging with people positively, and achieving your goals. This practice aligns your thoughts with what you want and attracts similar experiences to you. Here’s some practices to sharpen and strengthen your positive focus. Practice gratitude. Sit quietly and take slow, deep breaths. Visualize things you’re grateful for, family, health, opportunities. This shifts your focus to the positive.

Doing this and these practices help you create a baseline or foundation of optimism. Reflect on your daily wins! Before bed, write down three positive things that happened during the day. No matter how small. Focus on what went right. Focusing on these ‘wins’ reinforces your positive outlook. Audit your self-talk to keep it positive. Start by spending one day paying close attention to your self-talk. Commit to this practice for that day.

Whenever you notice yourself thinking negatively, reframe it. Find something positive instead. Shift into something constructive. For example, change ‘I’m not good at this’ to ‘yet’ or ‘I’m learning, and I can improve.’ Practice and celebrate the shift you’ve just made. As you understand how your emotions guide your focus, start using them as a tool. Each time you notice a negative feeling, remind yourself to shift towards what you want.
