“People are happy, and people are sad or mad about the debate. I’ve heard a lot and don’t normally discuss politics much in this blog but think this may be an appropriate time to think about some things. One, all debates should be fact checked for both candidates. Neither should get to pass along inaccuracies without being called out for it. We should never tolerate misinformation coming from any candidate. The moderators have a job to do.

In all fairness to President Biden. His inability to speak is not a demonstration of his ability to govern. Moses couldn’t speak and had Aaron as a mouthpiece. If you believe the Bible. An effective leader isn’t determined by whether he can’t stutter. Decision making and taking wise counsel is a better indicator of leadership skills. While we’d like our leaders to inspire from the platform, some do better by leading from behind the pack. 

Others do both. Some make claims without substance, others have substance without the ability to make claims. It should never come down to who is the shinier object but who has and can deliver the goods. That latter point is subject to the public who are willing to investigate and check the facts and not believe anyone’s claims. If the moderators won’t do their job, the voters must. Most however won’t. Historically, we know this to be the case.

In many ways we suffer not from ineffective leadership although we have, we suffer from an uninformed public, who believes marketing messages instead of seeking accurate information. This goes for anyone’s candidate. We need smarter voters along with better leaders. BTW leaders are representatives more than leaders. We need leaders who represent the interests of all Americans whether the voters are smart and wise or not.

Each of us can make claims. The question is can we listen when spoken to? Can we take wise counsel? Who do we listen to? Are we willing to be wrong? Are we willing to learn? Are we teachable? Do we allow our emotions to run hot and stop listening to understand? If we don’t seek accurate information, we are left with whatever is presented and it may not be accurate at all? We must do the legwork to find it. We must seek it to find it.

Napoleon Hill stated one of our greatest difficulties is to get accurate information. We must seek to uncover it so we can make informed decisions. Knowledge is only power when it is accurate and applied. He wrote, ‘Knowledge has no value except that which can be gained from its application toward some worthy end.’ Henry Ford said, Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it.’

If we aren’t willing to investigate but are willing to blindly follow anything that is said, should we blame those who deceive us or us? It is up to you and me to hold our so-called leaders accountable. Don’t follow the crowd but seek to become better informed, smarter, wiser and not deceived by others or yourself. If we want better leaders, we must hold ourselves accountable for voting in better leaders and not choosing the most popular.

We must search for the facts and separate them into truth and fiction, accurate or inaccurate, fact or opinion and then into the important and unimportant. What is relevant and what isn’t? He pointed out an important fact is a fact essential for the attainment of one’s definite major purpose. One of the reasons people give away their power is because of the price one must pay to think accurately and effectively.

Hence, most people willingly, blindly and easily accept the opinions of others without checking the veracity of them. People are lazy. Their results are poor, bad or unintended outcomes. If we want to control our destiny, we must do what it takes to have and assert that control. Short of that we’re like a cork bobbing in the water driven by the wind. We can, are and have been wrong. Stop letting others control us and learn to think better.

By thinking better, you can better take charge of your destiny. You can correct and improve your present and future. By having accurate information, you are able to apply you will make better decisions. GOOD decision making is an art and science based on specific principles. For most people, the ‘corks’ leave everything to change. Those who want to make life better for themselves and others apply themselves to making that happen.

They study, learn, apply and do what is positive and legal to get better results. Get better in making decisions. Make well-informed, accurate ones. Vet the candidates don’t just believe them. Vet the advice you get from so-called experts. Authorities are great when their information is useful. Then it is beneficial. Many who propose ideas aren’t correct or honest. You should know this. Understand the process. If you’re wise, you’ll understand this blog and these principles are about much more than just this American election, or elections anywhere.
