“I’m going to share some practices over the next few days you can immediately begin to apply. Please remember what I shared in the last blog. It’s small changes made at the right time and consistently applied that can give the most leverage overall. Thinking better, feeling better, acting with passion are things you can begin to do today. It can make your lives so much better.

As I have repeatedly told you, feeling genuine gratitude for everything is one of the most potent practices you can do to create instantaneous change. Are you ever down or lack energy? Does it seem that  sometimes your thoughts or feelings carry you where you don’t want to go? Have you tried to get ahead or feel better but you just keep getting more of the same?

If you answered yes to any of these questions you’re not alone. There are some things you can do that bring change about quickly. I have shared many of these with you in this blog site. Please go back and read through the blogs again and again as many great golden nuggets will leap out at you through multiple readings. Make it a study. Don’t read to finish. Read to absorb needed nutrition.

I have been discussing gratitude. Feeling grateful is one of the quickest ways to change how you feel for the better. You have to do it to get the change. You can’t just talk about it. It is more than just saying what you are grateful for or writing it down BUT at least that’s a start. You must actually feel it. Become it. Exude it. Live and breathe it. It is not merely mental but experiential.

The way to feel grateful is to look at your present life and your past and find anything and everything and everyone you are actually truly thankful for. It can be very tiny or very large. Everything counts! There are scores of things you take for granted. Go back and find these. What are they? Yes, you can write them down. It’s a great practice but the feelings are most important.

What do you feel grateful for? Notice WHY you’re grateful. What’s the reason? What are the reasons? It’s important. What and Why! Actually FEEL grateful and knowing the reason can help. It can be anything! All your bodily processes, your muscles, your organs, your health and well being, your ability to think and remember, your ability to speak, see, hear, and touch.

It can be what you taste, smell, read and write. Include the people in your life, good and bad, the lessons you’ve learned as a result of challenges. The challenges ARE opportunities that have helped make you who you are today. All events, situations and circumstances. Your things. Where you have been or traveled to. Your education or lack of it. EVERYTHING is available for you to appreciate.

For example, I did this when I was about 25. I realized my feet had carried me for 25 years and I never stopped to consider how fortunate I was. So, I began to notice and express true gratitude for everything I could think to appreciate. Here is a  very tiny taste of how I began. It was much more detailed and much deeper. From my feet I went through my entire being. I became ecstatic!

‘I am grateful for my feet. They have carried me near and far. All my life I have traveled and my feet have carried me and supported me. I would not have been able to do much or all of what I have done if I didn’t have feet that worked so well. They have taken me on adventures, gotten me in trouble, but I have seen and experienced so much because of my feet. My toes, the bones, the joints, the tissues. Everything about my feet I am thankful for.’

It’s important to be really thankful. Feel it. Just reciting a list is better than nothing and it is a start, but it is only the beginning. It’s better than not doing anything at all and it may be the grease that makes the wheel eventually move smoothly but the point is to ACTUALLY FEEL gratitude. So, what are you grateful for and why? Spend at least 5 minutes every morning when you first get up.

Before your feet hit the floor, count your blessings! It is a great way to energize your day. Too many people get out of bed dreading what the day may bring or that they’re ending their sleep. Learn to greet the day with enthusiasm! Be excited about what the new day will bring. After all, it is an entirely new day. It’s a gift to have another day. Celebrate it or lose the opportunity. Delight in it.

The only thing that keeps today the same as yesterday is our perceptions and routines. Celebrate each day and you incredibly well. If it is ho-hum it will remain ho-hum. It’s up to you. So shake yourself up. Activate your attitude. Add in some celebration, fun and some novelty and you’ll enjoy the new day. Feel better. Do no less than five minutes of gratitude prior to going to sleep, You’re welcome to do it for longer, but don’t do it for any less. Spend a minimum of 5 minutes twice a day. It is easy to accommodate. Make this your new habit. It is small enough to be practical and powerfully explosive and productive. Get it? Do it. Celebrate everything.” Rex Sikes
