“What to do when you don’t feel like it. We’ve all been there: you know you should do something, but you just don’t feel like it. You want to, you know it would benefit you, but something holds you back. What are you supposed to do? Do It Anyway! Many people grow up believing that if we don’t feel like doing something, then it’s okay not to do it. Our feelings seem to dictate our actions. But is this really natural? Remember this: You decide to feel what you want to feel.

Think of those who have achieved greatness despite fear or discomfort. Do you think they always “felt like it”? Consider the countless individuals who pushed through fear and discomfort. Some were terrified but did it anyway. Gandhi fasted despite intense hunger, resisting the urge to meet violence with violence. Victor Frankl endured captivity during the Holocaust, yet he remained spiritually free. These individuals didn’t allow feelings of fear or hunger to stop them.

They acted in spite of them. Want to know the truth about feelings. We’ve been misled to think that feelings should always guide us. Yes, feelings are important, but not in the way we often assume. Feelings are signals from our subconscious that let us know when we’re off track. If we let every negative feeling dictate our actions, we become prisoners to them. Realize this: you are not your feelings or your thoughts. You are YOU not thoughts and feelings.

DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF

YOU are the thinker of those thoughts and the creator of those feelings. You are capable of separating yourself from them and choosing to act, regardless of what you feel in the moment. If others can, so can you. Many people succeed in difficult situations, even when they don’t feel like it. Take athletes, for example. They don’t always feel like working out or eating right, but their discipline keeps them going. Muhammed Ali said he hated training but he did it any way.

In the military, individuals are trained to act regardless of their emotions. Feelings aren’t an excuse for inaction. There will be times when you don’t feel like doing something, but if it’s in your best interest, do it anyway. Take charge of your feelings rather than letting them run the show. Be disciplined. Use the power of discipline. Discipline is the ability to stay consistent, no matter what obstacles come your way. It’s the determination to keep moving forward.

Keep moving even when distractions or emotions try to pull you off course. Think of discipline as steering your own ship. You decide where you’re going, rather than being tossed around by the waves of emotion. Being disciplined means doing what’s right for you, even when you don’t feel like it. Cleaning the house, for example. If you don’t want to do it, tackle it first. Once it’s done, you’ll feel better. Discipline isn’t just about hard work. Discipline is what most think it is.

DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF

It’s about making the right choices over and over, even when you don’t feel like it. How to do this? Start small and build momentum. That the trick that makes it work. Start with small steps. If you don’t feel like cleaning the whole house, just pick one room or one task. Each little action builds momentum. Before you know it, you’re done, and you’ve overcome the initial resistance. The more you practice pushing through, the easier it gets. You create momentum to keep going.

You’ll start to realize you were capable all along. Excuses keep you stuck. Instead of giving in to them, take responsibility for your thoughts and actions. Decide this. No More Excuses! No more blaming. No more whining! You have the power to control your mind, not the other way around. Be aware of your feelings, but don’t let them dictate your life. Sometimes, life throws you a curveball.a bad event knocks you off course, and you just don’t feel like moving forward.

That’s okay for a moment, but don’t let it consume you. You can choose to wallow in negative feelings or take charge of your journey. Realize and remember YOU have a choice! When life gets tough, you can either sit and stew or decide to take action. You don’t have to feel good immediately, but you can start doing small things that shift your energy. Take charge of your situation rather than being controlled by it. Start with something positive, no matter how small.

DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF

Build from there. Instead of letting your thoughts and feelings limit you, push through them. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish when you stop saying “I can’t” and start saying “I can!” Exceed your own expectations by taking small actions that lead to big changes. Be the victor, not the victim. In every moment, you have a choice: to be a victim or a victor. Don’t let your feelings trap you in a prison of inaction. Be the one who takes charge. Be the victor!

Like Victor Frankl in his concentration camp, you are free in your mind, no matter the circumstances. Act like it. Use your feelings as a tool to guide you toward your goals. Positive feelings show you’re on the right path, while negative feelings alert you that you need to shift focus. If you pay attention to these signals, you’ll be better equipped to pursue what you want, not what you don’t want. Break free from the limiting thoughts. If one can, you can. Do it. Break free. How?

You don’t need to feel great all the time to make great things happen. If you wait for the “perfect” moment, you’ll be waiting forever. Start now, and surprise yourself with what you can achieve. Every step you take toward your goals, even when you don’t feel like it, moves you closer to a better version of yourself. In future blogs, I’ll share more strategies to help you feel motivated when you don’t feel like it. Remember, you have the power to take charge of your life and create the change you want. Celebrate every small victory along the way. Be good to yourself today, and celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
