“Sometimes, some people want to discover how much you really want it. Why give it to someone who only has a passing interest when there are others driven and obsessed by it. I’ve known producers, directors and casting directors in showbiz who have said to me, ‘the person with the most talent, who is right for the role AND who wants it the most and knows they can deliver is the person I cast or hire.’ Get that. Let’s unpack.

Must have ability. Be able to deliver the ability and know it BUT without being egotistical. AND who wants it more than anyone else. Some of those same people added, ‘everybody wants it but some absolutely want it. Why give it to someone who doesn’t want and need it enough? I choose the person who is most focused on making it happen and who fits in with the project and team.’ Again, all the same and must fit in. So…

There’re factors people consider when hiring that perhaps you haven’t. How much do you want it? How willing are you to have it? What are you willing to legally do to make it yours? Are you a team player or is it only about you? Then, if you aren’t a right fit, or right for the job and get passed on, don’t take it personally. Move on to the next. I suggest picking a couple ideal clients or avatars and launching a campaign.

DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF

Be respectful but continue to follow up every few weeks with another sample of what you can do. If you’re a writer for example, or blogger then send potential employers or publishers samples of your work. Each time you contact send some tips, suggestions, how too, what to avoid, breaking news, did ya know…brief articles and items to demonstrate your abilities and your persistence and demonstrated you mean it business.

When you say, ‘I want this and have skills in this arena, let’s work together,’ you prove what your value is and how passionately you want to work with them. Don’t take initial no’s as final no’s. Be willing to campaign and demonstrate you know what you are talking about. Keep letting them know that until they take notice and bring you onboard. Everyone gets rejected. Don’t take it personally nor let it deter you.

Don’t be a pest. Add value to the people you want to work with. Have a pleasing personality. Be likeable. Demonstrate you are passionate about your career and adding value by going the extra mile. Persist without making a nuisance. If you don’t get it, go on. Many of today’s successes were rejected multiple times and for years. Keep the faith. Keep improving what you do and how you present and market yourself. Offer your best and someone, somewhere will take notice. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
