“There’s a compass inside you that never lies. It doesn’t use north, south, east, or west. It uses how you feel. If you pay attention, it will tell you whether you are creating more of what you want or more of what you don’t. It’s really simple: when you think about what drains you, frustrates you, or stirs fear, your body reacts with heaviness. That is your signal you are staring too long at what you don’t want.

When you think about what excites you, delights you, and inspires you, you feel light. That feeling is the signal you are on the right path. For the sake of clarity, imagine there are only two emotions, good and not good. One lifts, one lowers. One opens, one closes. Just like hot and cold, up and down, light and dark, your emotions tell you where you are headed. If you are feeling good, you are aligned with the life you want.

If you are feeling bad, you are feeding the very things you’d rather escape. Negative feelings are not punishments. They are indicators, like a flashing red light on your dashboard, telling you to redirect. “Today, now. Live your life fully. See how much delight, how much gusto, you can pack into all your moments. Make it a point to celebrate everything! Why not? This is your day, your life, and you get to decide how you fill it.If your mind just answered with a reason you can’t, notice what you did. You supplied yourself with the very excuse that limits your joy. That’s your decision, whether you realize it or not.

But the reality IS it doesn’t have to be that way. You could just as easily decide it’s possible. Maybe you thought, ‘I can’t have fun at work.’ Who says? The boss? A policy manual? A sign on the wall? Or is it just you saying it to yourself? Fun doesn’t mean putting on a party hat and breaking out confetti.

It can be quiet, subtle, entirely yours. You can enjoy a moment without anyone else even knowing.
