“Last blog I wrote these phrases. ‘I’m not good enough.’ ‘I’ll never make it.’ ‘People like me don’t succeed.’ Do any of these thoughts sound familiar? These thoughts aren’t fleeting worries or just passing thoughts; they’re self-limiting beliefs, deeply ingrained patterns of doubt and negativity, powerful mental barriers that keep you stuck, playing small, doubting yourself and holding you back from achieving your true potential.

They’re born from past experiences, societal norms, family values, offhanded or fleeting comments or remarks from others, or failures you’ve mistakenly taken as final verdicts. These beliefs operate like invisible chains that tether you to a life far smaller than the one you’re capable of living. But here’s the truth: limiting beliefs are lies. Hardship is not proof you can’t succeed; it’s the fertile soil in which your greatness can grow. All beliefs are lies!

You should choose the ones that serve you and let go of the ones that don’t. Every challenge you’ve faced, every setback you’ve endured, has prepared you for this moment. You have everything you need to create the life you deserve. So, why don’t you act like it and live like it? Because you’ve convinced yourself that the lies you’ve repeated during your life are the reality. If you believe them, then they ARE your reality.

If you don’t, they are NOT. Get this! Your limiting beliefs don’t define your potential. Actions do. Limiting beliefs are sneaky. They disguise themselves as logic, caution, or even kindness, whispering things like: ‘It’s too late for me to change.’ ”I’m not talented enough to compete.’ ‘I’d fail anyway, so why try?’ Those beliefs become the stories you tell yourself, shaping your decisions, your actions, and ultimately your life.

They’re the invisible walls that stop you from applying for the job you want, taking a leap toward your dreams, or building the relationships you crave. BUT you don’t have to live in the prison of your thoughts. You have the power to transform and break free from limitations. Understand this. Break free. Every hardship you face creates the desire that propels you forward, sparking infinite possibilities when you align with that inner drive.

If you’ve ever felt held back by self-doubt or negativity, it’s time to break free. Understand that self-limiting beliefs are the internal scripts that whisper (or shout) reasons why you shouldn’t take a chance. Let’s end that. Together, we can transform those limitations into opportunities and unlock your true potential. First, recognize the lies. Start by identifying your limiting beliefs.

When you consider pursuing a goal, what’s the first negative thought that pops up? The simple act of acknowledgment robs these beliefs of their power. Yes, you can write it down. A client once told me, ‘I’ve always thought I’m not creative.’ But when she questioned that belief and explored her passions, she uncovered incredible artistic talent that had been suppressed for years. Remember, limiting beliefs are lies.

So, question the narrative. Ask yourself: Where did this belief come from? Probably, from your past, right? If it is from your past, it IS past! Don’t you think it’s time you get over it? Ask: Is it based on fact, or is it someone else’s opinion I adopted as truth? What evidence do I have to disprove it? Find the counter examples. Find the reasons and evidence it isn’t true. YOU ONLY THINK it is true. REALIZE THIS. And stop believing the lies.

Thomas Edison failed over 10,000 times before inventing the lightbulb. Think about that for a moment. Limiting beliefs can lead to missed opportunities, jobs not pursued, relationships avoided, goals abandoned, all because of a narrative that exists only in your mind. The good news? You can rewrite that narrative. Edison did. Imagine if he’d let early failures convince him he wasn’t capable.

Like Edison, your ability to persist is what defines your success, not past setbacks. It’s not that action is some magic cure. It’s the ability to take the next step after the first one. Stop believing the lies. Look for counter evidence AND rewrite your story. Once you’ve identified and challenged the false narrative, replace it with powerful and positive beliefs: ‘I am resourceful and capable.’ ‘Failure is a steppingstone to success.’

‘I deserve to live my best life.’ Repeating these affirmations daily rewires your mind, shifting you from self-doubt to unstoppable confidence. Nothing breaks the chains of limiting beliefs faster than action. Each step you take toward your goals, no matter how small, proves to yourself that you can. Think of Serena Williams, who rose from modest beginnings to become a tennis legend. She didn’t wait for permission or guarantees.

She acted on her belief in her own potential. Get it? The time for change is NOW. Self-limiting beliefs can be so subtle that they feel like facts. BUT they aren’t facts! They’re lies! Begin by noticing your inner dialogue. What thoughts arise when you consider stepping out of your comfort zone? Again, you can write them down. Awareness is the first step toward dismantling them. Consider the case of stroke survivors.

They often face overwhelming doubt about their ability to regain lost functions. Yet through perseverance, rehabilitation, and a belief in possibilities, many rebuild their lives in ways that defy the odds. The same principle applies to any challenge you face. Ask yourself: How has this belief shaped my decisions? What opportunities have I avoided because of it? Reflect on the promotions, relationships, or goals you’ve let slip by. Then shift.

The cost of inaction is often greater than the fear itself. Who says this belief is true? Is it rooted in fact, or is it based on a comment someone made years ago? Often, these beliefs crumble under scrutiny. Replace statements like, ‘I can’t do this,’ with questions like, ‘What if I could?’ Author J.K. Rowling was rejected by 12 publishers before ‘Harry Potter’ became a global phenomenon. Her belief in her story outweighed the doubts of others.
