“You’ve heard of the Chinese Bamboo? Once planted it takes 5, 6, 7 years to break ground. When it does it grows to about 90 feet in 5 or six weeks. What does that tell you? There’s no evidence for the success of the plant all those years until it breaks ground, but when it does it has meteoric growth in a short time. How long does success take? You might say years plus weeks but until it happens, we have no idea when or how it will happen.

Right? Squid Game’s creator pitched the script to studios for over 10 years. They rejected him every time. Netflix finally took a chance. Guess what? It became the most watched show EVER on Netflix in under a month. IN 28 days. 10 years of pitching, trying, and keeping at it. 10 years of hearing no, being rejected and turned away. No one wanted them or their idea BUT then, 10 years later, once it launched it was a huge success in under a month.

Do you think they knew, or you and I, could tell what would happen? What about those who rejected it? What do you suppose they thought after Squid Game blew up? You know what, I’ve not seen the show. I’ve heard about it but haven’t watched it. However, I did hear what they went through and what happened. The reason I am sharing this with you is it’s another example of what I’ve been sharing for 50 years in my programs and here.

Hwang’s decade of perseverance culminated in a phenomenon that no one could have predicted, not even the studios that had turned him away for so long. The lesson here is clear: persistence pays off. Imagine if Hwang had stopped pitching after five years, or even nine. Imagine if he had taken the rejection personally and convinced himself his idea wasn’t good enough. Research backs up this principle. And BARNES!!
