“I’m a bit of a purist. Guided meditation is not meditation. Okay, in name only, it is. It is visualization while relaxed. Reflection or self-examination is not meditation. It is reflection or examination. It is thinking. Actual meditation is beyond the technique to get there.
Meditation is the result of doing some practice, for some time, and letting go. It is not the witnessing of thoughts, or the sounds, it is the gap, the silence, the no – thing – ness that is always there but masked by the mind, and by effort. Meditation is beyond the efforting.
Meditation is what remains when all the efforting stops. The many different approaches to meditating are useful: chanting, watching thoughts, watching breath, dancing, kundalini, altering the breath, Zen, are designed to busy you until you finally give up and let go.
No Meditation – No Life – Know Meditation – Know Life – Be One
People call these meditation, but I don’t consider them meditation. Meditation is being, not listening, repeating, or doing. Meditation is what remains when all the activity ceases. It is who you are before you learned to be you. It is blissfully explosive and marvelous.
As the saying goes, ‘The Tao that can be spoken of is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name.’ By all means use the practices to learn to let go and be. They aren’t meditation, but are useful in helping you discover what is.
Do everything you can. Seek and you will find. When you stop seeking you will discover it was always right there BUT you must seek every possibility before you stop. If you quit that is something different. That is not stopping. That is quitting. Stopping and quitting are two different things. Meditation IS. You find meditation IS when you stop, but not when you quit. It is within you. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
