“Choice is a moment-to-moment activity. It requires that you choose and then choose again as needed. Each moment there is a choice to be made. You will choose, if you make mistakes you have the opportunity to choose to correct those mistakes. That is what conscious competence is all about. You use your conscious mind to set intent, become aware, adjust as necessary.
It’s all predicated on noticing when you are off and when you are right on. You’re using your conscious mind to train your unconscious mind. They work together. Your subconscious carries out the orders the conscious mind determines the orders. You direct it BUT to do so correctly you must do it the way the brain works. So many people try to do it their way but not the brain’s.
If you go counter to how the brain learns and is trained it takes a longer time and may be futile. Your brain runs programming based on the neural wiring and networks laid down during your early years and which have been reinforced all the rest of the time. The brain does what it learned to do reliably and automatically no matter what you think about it. Just like gravity.

But you can train it. You have to know how. It is not no pain, no gain. It is no train, no gain. If you don’t learn how to train it and then actually train it, your brain will continue on as always. If that’s what you want then no problem. BUT if you want it to be different you need to make some changes. The quickest and easiest way is to train it the way it most readily learns. Get it?
Now regarding feedback and adjustments. When you correct your choice you are learning to maneuver back towards what you want and away from what you don’t want. To learn to make positive choices and to self-correct as necessary is an important skill to develop. You want to learn this and make it a habit. Your brain runs by habit. It travels the neural paths that’s what habit it.
Building a habit requires you consistently perform the same actions and behaviors correctly, repeatedly, consistently over and over again until they get wired in. Once wired in they operate on their own reliably and automatically when triggered. This is how we developed good habits and less-than-glorious habits. Since it IS how we develop good positive ones, build positive habits!

When you choose to build a positive skill you correctly repeat the skill enough times, over time, until it’s wired in. When you go off course you course correct. For as many times as you go off course and you correct course you are building the skill and habit of learning to get back on course quickly after you notice you went off course. It’s an incredible skill and habit to develop.
I’ll share more in upcoming blogs but for now, realize this is a great opportunity. If you learn how to train your mind you have a willing, obedient servant that will carry out your wishes. It’s already doing what it thinks you wish it to do but is misinformed. This is what must be corrected. It’s the way you transform the easiest and swiftest.
