“Physically, doctors recommend some fasting. We didn’t evolve to eat continually throughout the day. So to occasionally fast for a day or two and only consume water or perhaps vegetable juice or broth gives your system a chance to rest and recuperate. More recently some suggest intermittent fasting which means lengthening the time you go without food. Stop eating after 7pm and don’t eat until 11 am or noon.
I’m not here to tell you to fast or how to fast. I’m merely pointing out that medical authorities suggest it can be beneficial to give your bowels a much needed break to repair. The same is true for our mind. We need to take a break and rest from problems and worries. We need a mental vacation from time to time. Heck even god rested on the 7th day according to Genesis. If it’s good enough for god, it should be good enough for you and me.
Stoic thought leader Seneca suggested: ‘The mind must be given over to wandering walks. Fields that are not allowed to rest will not bear plants. The mind will break like an anvil if not rested.’ That is another great point. Overprinting and harvesting delete the soil and make it less nutritious. To bear better produce, it needs to rest. One of the best things you can do is to go for a walk. Enjoy the outdoors. See and hear different things.
DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF
Nietzsche said, ‘Only ideas had when walking have any worth.‘ I’ve long counseled my NLP, Mind Design™ and Whole Brain trainees to walk. It’s good for your health. It’s good for your spirit. It’s good for your mind. I also for decades have encouraged therapists to take clients on walks instead of doing therapy from chairs or couches. Your mind can better entertain changes and make discoveries while moving then when stationary.
Both therapist and client are refreshed and stimulated by walking and discussing. You find better access to possibilities, opportunities and resources while moving. Remember, mind and body are part of the same cybernetic system. We evolved by walking to hunt and gather. We moved mostly during the day and rested at night. We ate less frequently and slept longer hours when the sun went down. We lived in harmony.
Today, we are out of balance sitting all day. Snacking all day. Working long hours. Watching TV or the computer for long hours. ON phone scrolling and texting. Listening to sounds from lights, machines, traffic etc. We seldom get a break to be silent, and simply enjoy natural surroundings. Breather the fresh air. Enjoy the sunlight, the cloudiness or the rain. Live more as we have lived before industry and digital technology.
DEVELOP THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, MINDSET AND BELIEFS TO TRANSFORM YOURSELF
Return to simplicity. Movement is great for the mind and body. If you can walk barefoot even better. You can also skip, jog a little, shake your body vigorously and dance. Don’t dance to be stylish. Dance to allow your energy to be expressed. Give yourself permission to not be ‘on’ all the time. Find ways to take micro-moment self-care breaks during the day. Take a day off. Just enjoy yourself. Be alone. Be silent. Enjoy nature.
Give the mind, body, heart and spirit a much needed vacation from the day to day activities and stressors. Destress. Rest. Reset. Recuperate. Rejuvenate. Stroll just to stroll. Listen to nature’s sounds. Look to the horizon. Change your point of view while you walk. Spend quality time with people you care about. Relax and do nothing together. Spend time have some fun and enjoyment too. Nurture yourself.
Discover how much better everything is when you do. Move. Walk. Fast for mind and body. You’ll enjoy life so much more this way. You may not believe it yet, but start doing it. Begin easy. Even a little bit is better than not doing anything. Keep in mind, if you want your life to change, you must change things in your life. Doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting a different result IS crazy. Chill. AND most importantly, if you want everything to transform for the better, celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
