Welcome to the real world. It’s a jungle. That’s the way things are. There are opposing opposites. It’s thermodynamics and physics at work.
What I find amazing is that there’s plenty of good in the world and there’s plenty of not so good. What rules the individual (and society) is where the focus of attention is for most people. Most are focused on what’s wrong and why they don’t like it and how it should be different. BUT they do little to positively change it. Instead they simply complain. That keeps them stuck. Their vision is of what is wrong but without a vision of what the fix is.
You can’t build it IF YOU DON”T KNOW WHAT IT IS you want to build.
Then, there are others who are all pie in the sky. They wish for all sorts of wonderful things to happen, but also do nothing about it. Their dreams are wishes and nothing more.
Then there are those, far fewer in number, who have the vision AND the mission AND they take these steps to make the good happen
I tell people all the time, you know, we’re truly miraculous! There’s all these simultaneous processes and sequential processes occurring in our body THAT MUST occur in our body just for life to exist and we don’t even know how that is possible, BUT we get to live it.
Many people think we live and die without having much say in what happens in our lives. Perhaps, we don’t. Maybe we do. WHAT WE ABSOLUTELY DO HAVE is the how we react or respond to what happens. We either think bad about it or think good about it. We either avoid it or welcome it.
Mostly, most people avoid what they perceive is bad and welcome what they perceive as good. But what it, it is all an illusion.
Remember, this is a what if… what if what we perceive as bad is actually the good… it gets us moving. It requires us to do something to leave it or change it. It provides impetus for us to change. WHILE what is good we accept and enjoy and get lazy.A after a time the good fads like metal tarnishes and it is not so good anymore. So they chase another good. They long to have it easy and comfortable. Because when it is cushy we don’t want to change it.
OKAY, that is a what if…
Consider this. If you stub your toe, the attention goes to the toe that’s injured. For some people, they forget completely that everything else is working perfectly well. All the attention goes to what’s wrong AND not to but 99.9999999 things that are absolutely working perfectly. Get this?
Which is why I have said and continue to say now for decades.
If you consider it a problem, it’s the problem. If you consider it a blessing. It’s a blessing.
Perception IS everything.
So it makes sense that the best choice one can make is to celebrate everything. Then everything is a blessing. Then even the not-so-good is good. Get it?
Most people want to escape the city. They want to escape the jungle. They want to run to the ashram, the monastery, the forest or to the mountain top to meditate in peace and quiet. The want to rid themselves of the discomfort, the rat race, those others…
And they go for a long time and then they come back to the city. They meditate and while meditating someone makes a noise that interrupts their meditation and they yell, “Shut Up! I am meditating here.”
Clearly, their peace or bliss is interrupted and that is because they didn’t learn how to meditate in the city. They didn’t learn how to be still and quiet and calm and at one when there’s turmoil around them.
Everything is going on simultaneously around us. The good and not-so-good, the boring, the exciting, it’s all happening at once simultaneously and sequentially. IT’s all one process. LIFE! Get it, it’s life!
What we decide to do focus on and how we decide to live IS up to us. We are alive. We get to live. We get to experience all of it. Yet, some of us, MOST of us want to reject some of it and only have the other part. BUT that isn’t possible because there are always opposites. Hot/cold, in/out, up/down, short/tall.
What we get to steer is where we choose to put our attention!!
It’s like going down a stream in a kayak You’re going with the flow if the water is rapid – it’s rapid. if it’s calm, it’s calm.
The one thing you get to do is determine where in the stream you wanna be. You can steer the kayak. You’re always gonna be surrounded by all sorts of things, but you get to choose what you pay attention to and what you endorse. AND what you choose or do not choose you will continue to experience.
Focus matters.
Blaming and whining, only results in more blaming and whining. Celebrating and enjoying can result in more celebrating and enjoying. Each one of us decides.
There are people with absolutely nothing that are deliriously happy and content while there are people who have everything and are miserable and suffering. Why do you suppose that is?
It’s not what you have. It is how you think about what you have or don’t have that makes a difference. Perception is everything.
What can you begin to focus on today that will make your life more of what you want it to be? Remember everything will always continue to be ongoing. What will you choose? How will you navigate through all of it? When will you learn to think differently so you respond differently instead of reacting from old habit?
