“Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt recently asked which you’d prefer, criticism or praise? ‘Would you rather be unable to hear compliments or unable to hear criticism?’ He asked. Then he answered in a video which I share below. Just click the link.

My answer is feedback I need for correction. Praise not so much. I don’t need a swelled head. While it’s good to receive compliments, it’s more useful to be able to correct behaviors when necessary. Having a good and trusted source for feedback is most desirable!

Both are good and necessary at correct times. Wisdom is knowing the right time and how to deliver criticism in a way it can be heard, understood and embraced without upsetting the recipient. It’s also good to be able to deliver a sincere compliment so it can be received.

Watch the video. I think it is good and includes elements important in communicating well with others. Be constructive and be specific. The same is true about a compliment. Be specific, not vague. ‘That color blue is a great wardrobe choice. You’ve great matching skills.”

As opposed to ‘You look nice.’  Learn to use the ‘feedback sandwich’. It’s most useful. Begin with a compliment or praise, insert a constructive, specific critique. End with a compliment. ‘You did a nice job, looks great. You might want to outline it in black, but you did great.’

Get it? Compliment, feedback, compliment makes it easier for the other person to accept, understand, and be open to making the changes you suggest. They may not. They need not but you won’t have offended them by offering suggestions. Learn this. It helps!

How To Get People To Do What You Want Without Begging

To get along with others understand what is most important to them. Learn how they like to be approached, listened to, spoken to and treated. Understand what makes them tick and you’ll be far more influential. It pays to learn how to do this. Watch and listen!

If you want people to listen give them your full, undivided attention and respect first. My motto is, ‘go first!’ You give your attention and respect then they are more likely to reciprocate with theirs. Never ask for that which you aren’t willing to give first! GO FIRST!

Get this! Don’t expect others to do what you won’t. If you want love, respect, honesty, fun, enjoyment give yours first. ‘Remember, when you throw a boomerang out a boomerang returns. Not a teacup.’ You get back what you put out. It’s basic law of attraction. Get it?
