A study in Frontiers in Psychology (Jerath et al., 2015) showed that slow, deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, your body’s natural calm-down button. The problem is most people never practice it until the storm hits.

Just like athletes don’t only train during the game, you rehearse in advance, so when life throws you the curve, you swing with grace. You need to learn to breathe like a champion.
