“In our recent explorations, I talked about the power of remembering and rehearsing the good and how recalling your own resourceful past and imagining your ideal future primes you for more of what you want to experience. It’s the mental rehearsal that conditions the body and mind to expect success! If you’ve been doing that, even in small ways, you’re already shifting your reality. That’s worth celebrating.
And now, let’s add another layer. I’m going to begin discussing how to shift stress into strength. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could shift a difficult moment, just enough, to ease the tension, to feel more at choice instead of at the mercy of circumstances? What if that rising stress didn’t have to take over, but could be transformed into a calm awareness instead? The good news is, you CAN alter your state.
You can direct your mind and body toward a different experience, even in the middle of something that once triggered you. That’s not just a feel-good idea; it’s backed by science. Studies from Stanford University and the University of Wisconsin show that how you perceive stress changes your biological response to it. When you reframe or redirect your experience, your body produces less cortisol and more DHEA.

DHEA is the performance and recovery hormone. So, when we consciously shift our perception, we’re not pretending things are better, we’re actually MAKING them better, physiologically and psychologically. BUT… This doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because you trained for it. You practiced. You built that inner muscle. Just like athletes visualize their moves before they make perform. You can too.
You’ve been preparing yourself to handle life’s curveballs with more grace and skill. And if you haven’t started yet, that’s okay. Begin with the first steps: relive your positive memories. Feel them in detail. Create your mental library. Then imagine your future self in the situations where you want to shine. Build that inner experience so it’s ready for you to draw upon. Think of it like a pilot logging flight hours in a simulator.
The more time you spend in those ideal internal states, those resourceful, positive inner flights, the easier it is to return there when the sky gets cloudy. Without this inner training, most people try to fly by instinct when the storms hit. And often, they crash emotionally or repeat old patterns. It’s not their fault; they just never learned the process. You’re learning it now. Well, you are reading about it. NOW practice it!

As you become more familiar with this new layer of transformation, I recommend reading through the process several times. Let it soak in. If you’d like, record your voice walking yourself through it, slowly, gently, and play it back when you practice. Let your own voice become your guide and encourager. The goal is not to get through it quickly, but to really experience it. To make it real for yourself.
