Happy 4th Of July – A Special Message

Beloved Friend!

While, it may be difficult to feel happy and celebratory on this July 4th (and this is very true for some, perhaps you) because of current events, celebrate what July 4th used to mean – freedom and independence from tyranny and the birth of a nation that was to become a melting pot to include all people working together to uplift each other. It meant opportunity for all (even when it didn’t really mean that at one time). It became the home of the brave, the land of the free. Anyone could come here with hope, as many did, and together built this nation.

Don’t let tough times get you down. Manage your mindset and emotions. Instead of focusing on what is wrong, focus on what is right, be grateful and decide what good you want to perpetuate. Create the good. Be a role model to inspire and uplift others. Lend a hand. Encourage and enable. Together, when we unite, put our oars in the water, facing in the same direction, rowing together we can more easily and swiftly get to the destination we choose. If you let chaos and confusion rule you there’s little chance.

We’ve never been without issues or problems, it is true. There have been severe ones that need to be addressed and corrected back then, now and certainly in the future.

But yes, there were easier, more open and safer times. Again, not always. We’ve encountered dark times and inhumane treatment before. And we have again in recent times. We must not allow hate, harm and exclusion to dominate. So, while there have been and are problems let us celebrate the ideal. That all people, regardless of race, religion, country of origin, gender, political affiliation, wealth and status have certain inalienable rights and should be allowed to live and work together in harmony.

Celebrate the good that was and continue to work for what can be.

Let’s work for the freedoms and the opportunities for all in this country to live a better life, AND to someday have elected representatives who will represent all of us, instead of those who think they are leaders who get to dictate their agendas to the people. We don’t have leaders. We never have. We have elected representatives whose job it is to do the will of the people. That is what a democratic republic does OR should do.

Together, we can claim our country back peacefully. It is possible if we continue to believe and to act as if it is possible. If we have the will to do it, we can succeed. Let’s unite again to make our country and the world a friendlier, nicer, safer place for all to be, everywhere always, now and in the future.

We can learn from our past and the mistakes we make, correct and adjust and move forward cooperating and collaborating in peace and with compassion, love, peace and acceptance for all. We can move back into the light as there is nothing saying we must remain in darkness. Troublesome times are there to help us move forward, correct the situations, take the bad times and remove the bad and make them better. That is what self-determination is all about. Create the good we want while releasing that which we don’t want.

How to Build Unstoppable Momentum

“Win the Day: One Tiny Victory at a Time. Encourage and nurture yourself along easily. Bit by bit. Encourage. Success is never a single leap. It’s not some grand slam. It’s not lightning. It’s not magic. It’s a rhythm. A whisper. A pattern. It’s small steps taken with intention, repeated with joy, that lead you into greatness. If you promised yourself 30 minutes a day of inspirational reading and didn’t do it, don’t collapse into guilt.

Don’t punish yourself. Don’t label yourself inconsistent, unmotivated, or broken. That mindset is the trap. It’s how you stay stuck. It’s your monkey mind doing its ‘thang.’ It’s not your fault you learned to measure success with a stick too long to hold. But now, it’s your opportunity to shift. Try this instead: one page. Harvard neuroscientist Dr. Stephen Kosslyn’s research shows that imagining an object activates the same brain regions as actually seeing it. “I’m sharing more on overcoming difficulty, getting unstuck and moving forward into positive results. Here’s the magic of this moment. You’re becoming the director of your own internal movie. You’re no longer stuck inside the story. You’re stepping back, observing, choosing, becoming the author and the actor. That’s powerful. That’s transformative. So, let’s stay right here. You’ve watched that scene unfold, the one where you used to tighten up, shut down, lash out. And now, you’ve interrupted the old flow. You took a deep breath. You shifted your posture. You created a space, a sacred pause. That moment, that breath, is the difference between spiraling and soaring. The science is clear. Neuroscientists have shown that ’emotional memory reconsolidation.’

That means you are rewriting emotional responses which requires two things: activation of the old memory, and then a new emotional experience during the recall (Lane et al., 2015). This is precisely what you are doing. You’re calling up the past, inserting a new pattern, and teaching your nervous system a better way. This isn’t fantasy. This is rewiring. There is so much power in this simple practice alone. Still, there is more!

Harvard research by Amy Cuddy shows that simple postural changes. including movement and expansive gestures, can significantly impact cortisol levels, boost confidence and presence.

That research is (Cuddy, Wilmuth, & Carney, 2012). So yes, shake. It’s symbolic and scientific. It says to your subconscious: ‘That was the old me. This is the new me.’ Once you’ve rewritten one experience, don’t stop. Choose three more. Just like rewinding a favorite film scene and dubbing in a better soundtrack. Maybe it was a tense talk with a boss. A moment you froze in front of a crowd.

That heated exchange with someone you love. Go through it three times. Each time, more confidently. Each time, ending with a breath, a shift, and a shake. And then another. And another. You’re rehearsing your power. You’re rehearsing the you that you want to live into. Most people never do this. They continue to relive their worst scenes, again and again, without ever realizing they can reshoot the entire movie.
