How to Claim Your Power When Life Doesn’t Go Your Way

“Life doesn’t always deliver what you ordered. Things don’t always go your way. There are lessons in all of this but few realize that is the opportunity. So when it goes askew, here’s what you can do. Sometimes, people say they’ll be there and vanish. Sometimes, the plan derails, the outcome fizzles, and things flat out don’t happen. So what? That’s the ride. That’s the real deal. That’s what is. Go with the flow. Yup!

The sooner you stop resisting it, the sooner you begin to own your experience. Most of us are addicted to control without realizing it. I mean really. We want guarantees. We want everyone to do what we expect, when we expect it. We want the world to conform to us, circumstances to bend to our will and life to be easy and work out as we hope. We want people to do what they say. We don’t want to be disappointed.

One way to think about it is the world doesn’t play by our imagined rules. People are unpredictable. Life shifts. Circumstances change. The only constant you can rely on is yourself. So claim it. Own it. Because when you do, something profound happens. You take your power back. You may not control what happens. But you can control how you respond. That’s your point of power. Reacting is the old. Responding the new.

When something falls through, whether someone flakes, an outcome slips, or your expectations get shattered, you can crash and burn, cave in, wallow around on the floor, or you can rise. It is always completely up to you what you do.

Over the years I’ve coached countless thousands through this very pivot point. The Secret Pause That Sets You Free

“It all happens in a flash, doesn’t it? That tiny moment when someone says or does something and, before you know it, you’re hooked. Your body tenses, your breath shortens, your voice sharpens, and boom… you’re off. You’ve taken the bait. Now you’re in it. But what if that moment, that moment, could become your greatest teacher? The truth is it can.

When you recognize the spark that ignites your reaction, you begin to reclaim your power. You don’t have to take the bait. You don’t have to bite. There is always a moment before the storm, and in that pause, you can choose. Choice comes from awareness. You begin by noticing. What happens inside you right before the reaction spills out? The Hidden Power That Sets You Free

You’re not here to beat yourself up. You’re here to rise up. Blame is baggage. Responsibility is power. Blame was conditioned into you, by parents, teachers, peers who wanted to correct your behavior but didn’t know how to uplift you. They lashed out. They said it was your fault.

The Real Secret To Manifesting Easily

Stop Forcing It!!

“Let me make this even clearer by backtracking over some of the pathway I recently covered. You don’t want to stay stuck focusing on manifesting wondering whether it is happening or not. That’s a fight you won’t win. You do want to set the intention and then redirect the energy by getting present and into a feeling good state. Find gratitude. Express feeling delighted. Remember to vibe high instead of battling the opposite of what you want.

Otherwise, you’re living with one foot on the dock and the other on the boat, so you experience delays in manifestation because instead of vibing high and being the person for whom manifesting is easy you’re fighting to manifest. Stop. Let it go. The more you struggle and fight, the more you get the same. You get what you put out. From within to without! Stop chasing. Rest. Let go. Let god.Find refuge in gratitude, appreciation and celebration.

You may be hesitant because you’ve been conditioned and trained your whole life to think about your problems. You think about the past and regrets. You’re told to work hard to solve them. There may be infinite ways to solve it and you limit yourself to one.

It is not about finding ‘the’ answer’ but that’s what we’ve been led to believe is important. My work with Directed Questions™ addressed this 40 years ago. Not information, but action.

It’s not the ‘take action’ mentality proposed by others. It’s letting the right action arise from within that transforms everything. Think of it this way. You don’t want explanations of happiness you want to feel better, smile and laugh and find yourself spontaneously enjoying life more without having to pull yourself up by the boot straps or take massive action and break boards or walk on fire to have a wonderful existence.

However, many do because they’ve been led to believe that’s what is necessary. IT ISN’T! Instead become open to celebrating life and the infinite possibilities, opportunities and resources begin to become evident. Let go. Let god. We overthink the future and what might happen. Everyone is constantly thinking about their problems. That’s your biggest clue that the mind isn’tt the solution. AS the mind typically interferes with your manifesting.

You don’t want an answer. You want experience. You want the changes you seek, not more information. Because if thinking about our problems was the answer, no one would have any problems. People constantly think about their debt, and they never get out of it. People think about their living situations, or their things and they never get new ones. People think about their relationship status being single and they never get married.

All these things are showing us that the mind is not the answer. The mind is simply a tool we can use to set our intentions and then experience the manifestation of them. The simple process of manifesting without battling the mind IS how you want to live. You use the mind to set an intention. You may have a few specifics, number of rooms you want, or you can just have the idea of a perfect home.

You set the intention either by visualizing and/or just holding the idea, for a right home, or relationship, or career or whatever in the mind for a bit. You infuse it with the feeling, not emotions, but the feeling of acceptance that you would have if it were yours now. What would you be feeling? Maybe security, relief, comfort, calm, gratitude, delight, love, peace or …? Feel the good feelings. That is living from the wish already fulfilled.

Keep It Light And Have Fun With It

“Seriously, have fun. This is about letting go, right? So let’s not take ourselves too seriously in the process. When you practice, start small and ease into it. Be light about it. Be gentle. Don’t try to become the Dalai Lama overnight. That’s not how it works. You don’t go from zero to Jesus levels of grace in one day. Take baby steps. Take playful steps. Begin with something that’s mildly irritating.

Pick mild examples to begin with like the guy who cut you off in traffic or your coworker who keeps stealing your stapler. Instead of gripping the steering wheel with white knuckles, yell out, ‘Hey! You must be in a real hurry. Good luck out there!’ and mean it. Let that little jab turn into a grin.

You’re not doing it for their sake, remember, you’re doing it for your own peace of mind. Or imagine the coworker. Instead of stewing over the missing stapler and plotting revenge via office supply sabotage, maybe you imagine they’re preparing for a high-stakes paper-clipping championship. Laugh a little. Let it go. Get a new stapler. Label it with glitter and unicorn stickers if it helps. Move on, and yes, have fun.

Make a game out of it. How fast can you bounce back from a slight? How quickly can you shift your emotional state when something goes wrong? You can pretend you’re training for the emotional Olympics. The goal: grace under pressure. When you turn this into a playfulness challenge, it becomes easier and more natural. It’s like learning to ride a bike. You don’t start on a mountain trail; you start with training wheels in your driveway.

The more you practice, the more balance you develop, and before you know it, you’re cruising. AND sometimes, let’s face it. Sometimes you screw up. We all have those days when we weren’t our best selves. Maybe you snapped at someone who didn’t deserve it. Maybe you ghosted a friend out of avoidance. Maybe you really fumbled the ball, and you’ve been replaying it in your head like a blooper reel ever since.

Here’s the deal: That’s okay. That’s normal. That’s human. And just like we ought to forgive others, we need to forgive ourselves. So, go ahead and picture that less-than-glorious moment. Don’t run from it, look it straight in the eye. Now imagine inserting a better version of you into that scene. A you who had all the clarity, calm, and patience in the world. Let that version of you handle it. Rewrite it, re-code it, and then feel what that’s like.

Feel what it feels like to get it right. You’re not changing the past; you’re building resources for the present and the future. This is why I encourage you to build a ‘library of resourcefulness.’ Think of it like creating your own personal highlight reel. Collect memories where you felt empowered, loved, confident, strong, wise, funny—whatever traits you want more of. Replay those. Soak in the feeling.

Let those moments become touchstones you can draw upon any time. Everything becomes easier when you’re operating from a full tank of good vibes. Say you once gave a killer speech in high school, and the crowd loved it. That moment of being on stage, owning the room, that’s a feeling you can bottle up and revisit. Or maybe you once comforted a friend during a rough time, and your compassion made a difference.

That, too, becomes part of your internal toolkit. The more you revisit those moments, the more they rewire your identity into someone who IS compassionate, confident, calm, whatever you want to be. When you choose to live from a place of lightness and fun, everything becomes easier. Your heart opens. Your brain relaxes. Your body stops bracing for impact. You become open, and open people are happier people.

Think about the children you’ve seen giggling uncontrollably over something silly. That’s what lightness looks like. If you water resentment, you’ll grow bitter. If you nurture forgiveness and fun, you’ll grow peace.

Your internal world becomes a reflection of what you regularly feed it. So why not feed it joy? Make lightness your default setting. Forgive like it’s going out of style.
