“The field of Psychology offers a lot of help. It also offers a lot of BS. Telling the difference can be difficult. Many people believe useless concepts, propagated by the field because the concepts have been popularized. Just because people believe in it doesn’t make it so.
It’s not really much different than believing in Santa, the Easter Bunny though some will say it is. Again, just because someone said it doesn’t make it so. Lots of people believe things about the mind which may or may not be accurate. We believe many useless lies.
Vetting and investigating a principle and practice is the key. We ought not believe something because someone said so, wrote or published a paper on it, or a book, without seeking additional verification, critique and review. Not all practices are equal.

There are vested interests in some because of field politics. Journals promote ideas and celebrity theorists for profits and promotion. Schools do the same. Therapists practice management rather than work to cure although many are truly wonderful, helpful people.
The psychiatric field, similar to that of medicine, finds bigger profits in management than in eradication. This is unfortunate as many practices are pushed for this reason and not for the greater benefit to the patient or client. That said, hopefully, it will change soon,
The point is we ought not accept ‘theories’ because they are popular or promoted by celebrity and the mainstream media or for any other reason. Much of what is substituted for verification is merely opinion and proselytization. This blog may be stepping on toes.

We need to do research and not believe in opinion, but verify it. There are many practices and principles in psychology that are complete BS, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be effective. The Placebo Effect helps explain this. Perception is everything, too.
That we are meaning makers and time-binders suggests ‘useless’ practices can still be effective and useful even when they may not be all that helpful. Much depends on the purpose and intention and what and how it is applied. We believe lies and things still work.
Thinking requires effort. Let’s not just accept what is presented to us. That, and this includes my remarks and comments. Don’t just believe what I or any one expert says, but look into it. Seek to verify. Don’t give over your reason. Far too many people do.
Change Your Thoughts And You Transform Your Life
There are many theories in psychology that are unnecessary and bogus in premise but people have used to effect great change, as well as, keep people limited, stuck and searching endlessly when they need not. We aren’t broken. We don’t need to be fixed.
What we need is to release. Let go. Forgive more. Think better thoughts that help us feel better and practice these until they become good habits to replace the ones that make us think we are less than glorious. Change can be easier than most imagine.
Not always but most of the time, Check into it. Practice gratitude and shifting your awareness. Shift your thinking. Look for the silver linings instead of how you are broken and don’t work. Stop endlessly searching for answers and sifting through your past for reasons. Begin living fully. Enjoy life more, and more often. You can, you know. Try it sometime. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
