“Momentum is a powerful force. It can either propel you toward success and fulfillment or drag you deeper into frustration and despair. I’ve lived on both ends of the spectrum. I know what it’s like to feel stuck, as if nothing I did made a difference, caught in a downward spiral where one negative event seemed to attract another. But I also know the exhilarating ride of positive momentum.
I learned to have and continue to experience life flowing with such ease and joy that it feels like the universe is conspiring in your favor. I can tell you, without hesitation, the difference comes down to two things: attitude and gratitude! Attitude IS the number one predictor for your success and happiness in ALL areas of your life. Psychological research has long supported the idea that your mindset shapes your reality.
Studies in cognitive neuroscience have shown that your brain is wired to seek patterns and confirm your beliefs. If you expect the worst, your brain will filter the world through that lens and find evidence to reinforce your negativity. But if YOU train yourself to look for the good, you will see more opportunities, attract better circumstances, and experience greater happiness.

Dr. Barbara Fredrickson, a leading researcher in positive psychology, describes this as the ‘broaden-and-build’ effect. Positive emotions expand your awareness, allowing you to see more possibilities and build the resources you need for future success! Years ago, I found myself in a rut. I was caught in a cycle of negativity, and I didn’t even realize how much of it I was creating myself. I blamed circumstances, other people, and bad luck.
But WHEN I finally stopped and examined my own patterns of thought, I saw that I was feeding the very thing I wanted to escape. My attitude was reinforcing my problems. So, I decided, I made a real decision, to shift my mindset and focus on what I could control. That decision changed everything! As I have shared, I started small. Each morning, before my feet hit the floor, I found one thing to be grateful for. Just one.
Some days, it was as simple as being grateful that I woke up at all. I practiced this religiously, writing down things I appreciated throughout the day, no matter how trivial they seemed. Shortly I began adding things to that 1st expression of morning gratitude. Neuroscientific research by Dr. Robert Emmons and Dr. Michael McCullough has shown that gratitude physically rewires the brain, strengthening neural pathways associated with happiness.

BUT not only happiness but also resilience. Get this! The more I practiced, the easier it became. The easier it became the more I wanted to practice. I started noticing more things to be grateful for AS my gratitude expanded, SO did my joy. You create momentum, a momentum cycle. The more you do the more you become capable of doing. But gratitude alone wasn’t enough. I had to pair it with a winning attitude!
I had to develop an attitude that embraced challenges as opportunities, setbacks as lessons, and effort as the key to transformation. I revisited the teachings of Napoleon Hill, Wallace Wattles, and other great minds who had studied success principles for decades. I flooded my mind with positive material, listened to audios, and surrounded myself with people who uplifted and inspired me. Bit by bit, my momentum shifted.
It wasn’t always easy. There were days I wanted to quit, moments when old patterns threatened to creep back in. But I stayed committed. I learned to accept where I was while striving for something greater. That’s the balance, embracing what IS while deliberately creating what CAN be. It sounds paradoxical, but it’s not. It’s the KEY to sustained transformation. Now, years later, I can say with absolute certainty that my life is grand.

That’s not because of luck or external changes, but because I made the inner shift first. It’s not that there’s never any difficulty, because life offers all sorts of experiences but I’ve recoded, reframed, rewired, the concept of difficulty. The external world always follows the internal! When you cultivate gratitude and a winning, unstoppable attitude, you create momentum in the right direction.
And once that momentum builds, it becomes an unstoppable force. Life is easier, even when it’s not. Get this!
