“Leadership is from the top down. You do not lead by pushing. You can’t get cooperation long-term by bullying. To lead you must get out in front and be an example others want to follow. You inspire and motivate when you’re congruent and walk your talk. Get it?

When selecting a consultant, mentor or coach pick someone who keeps their word. Pick an honest person with integrity. Choose a good role model you want to learn from. Seek the best you can afford. You want an exemplar. So choose carefully! Understand?

Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. Whether a political or  spiritual leader, a life or business coach, mentor, trainer, instructor, or teacher in a classroom, it’s important to choose wisely. Pick someone who represents the highest positive values possible.

By Their Fruits You Will Know Them – Do They Walk The Walk

A spiritual leader may, or may not, have great wealth. If wealth is important seek someone who started where you did, but went on to accomplish and attain what you want. Don’t choose a model whose experience is contrary to yours. Similarity is important!

You want similar background circumstances, knowledge and experience so they can show and tell you how to navigate the journey toward success. You want someone honest, who exemplifies integrity, so you can trust them and what you get from them. Get it?

There are plenty who talk well, but their walk is shaky. Then, there are those who walk the talk! Chose the latter. If they don’t walk their talk you should walk away! Find the best person for the job that you can afford. If you have to spend more money. Get the best you can.

Skill Comes Of Doing – You Go Where Your Thoughts Take You

Choose a good role model. An honest mentor. A good, honest mentor may not be a comfortable fit for you. A good mentor may challenge and provoke you to new heights, to help draw you out of your comfort zone to explore new ways of being. You may not like it.

Be a good student. Be teachable. Be willing to listen. Be willing to do what you are told. If you fight your mentor what point is it? What are you doing to make yourself a desirable mentee?  Not everyone that comes to the door gains entry. Realize, they have choice in this,  too.

Give up resistance. Learn a new way. Ultimately, you must  follow your heart but give the mentor/mentee relationship a significant chance. It can be uncomfortable as you learn to expand your boundaries. It will be as you change habits. You must understand.

If You Really Want To Do Something You You’ll Find A Way …

It isn’t always pleasant leaving your comfort zone and attempting new things. Discomfort may be part of the process. It gets  comfortable in time. If you don’t follow your mentor’s advice you just waste time. Be willing to learn and to change. Adapt and adjust.

The mentor/mentee relationship is special. It is as close to the traditional master/apprentice relationship as it gets nowadays. You are fortunate if you find someone who can guide you. Cherish it when you find a good one! You’ll discover It is most valuable.

Good mentors can help support your learning and transformation. Seek them out. Don’t be gullible. Investigate. Select carefully. You’re responsible for your choice of mentors. You are responsible for the relationship and what you learn and absorb from your mentor.

No one can do it for you. This is why you ’empty your tea cup’ when you go to the mentor. So they can pour in fresh tea. If you are filled with your reasons and excuses and beliefs and habits the job is damn difficult but if you are open anything can be possible. It’s up to you.
