“I once saw a comment by someone on social media stating ‘thoughts don’t do anything’. My thought for that person was, I hope it’s true for him simply because he believes it. Science, philosophies, religious and everyday experience proves otherwise. Thousands of investigations and commentaries through time suggest that our thoughts have more power than most people realize.

(This will be a two-parter blog). What you think about you bring about. Most people miss this point altogether and never come to enjoy the incredible benefits of better thinking. For many people, life is merely okay. It is a mix of good and not-so-good, sometimes bad. For lots of people, it’s a struggle. The reason is only a few people understand the power of thinking well. So, they miss out.

I’ve pointed out again and again that we become what we think about. It’s not my original idea at all, I co-opted the quote from Earl Nightingale, but when you adopt that statement as an operating principle for your life everything can begin to change for the better. Thoughts become things.

You get what you focus on. Energy flows where your attention goes. DOG SHIT or DIAMONDS? Your choice. What do you choose? What have you been choosing? Where you spend your mental time determines what you get more of. What you focus on expands. You need to be mindful of your thoughts because your thoughts do have much more power than you realize.

The reason people get so many mixed results, or merely an okay life experience is because instead of managing their thoughts, their thoughts manage them. UNDERSTAND THIS AND CHANGE IT AND YOU CAN TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE! Similar to a cork bobbing on the water, people drift wherever the current takes them. Most people, including us, react to life situations similarly.

For so many life is whatever comes along. Life is whatever happens to them. Life is whoever shows up and what events, good or bad, happen. They say you can’t change it so accept it. Life happens. Shit happens. When bad things happen or might possibly happen most people think about what they don’t like and don’t want. They obsess about what’s wrong. Life sucks and then you die.

Instead of obsessing about what is right. Consider this, if it’s accurate that you get or become what you predominantly think about or hold in your head AND enough research demonstrates this is accurate, then mixed results come from not having any predominant thought. Poor results come from focusing on what’s wrong, what they don’t have or what bad event is going to possibly occur.

Worry is rehearsing or negative planning for the future. When life’s a problem or less than you hope it to be, then the glass is either half-filled with whatever, or it is certainly more filled with negative thinking than with positive thinking. It’s common sense, frankly! If you want a most wonderful life then the majority of your experience, your thoughts, feelings and actions must be wonderful.

Get this! The bulk of your time must be spent thinking about what is fabulous, what you are grateful for, what you can accomplish and so on. The majority of your thinking must be positive! It isn’t fanciful thinking, it is powerful thinking. It is deciding that you will create the outcomes and results you want instead of letting life dictate what is, who you are and what you can or can’t do. Get it?

If you obsessively fear your relationship is falling apart you’re increasing the likelihood that it will.  Why? Because you are not focused on the reasons you’re together. You are not spending your time or your thoughts loving and enjoying each other. You’re focused on what’s wrong and what could or will go wrong. You aren’t focused on or celebrating or grateful for the ties that bind you. Is this you?

If you’re consumed with the notion that you might get fired or lose your job you’re increasing the likelihood of getting fired. The more energy you give the problem, the more likely you continue or advance the problem. You don’t diminish it by obsessively thinking or worrying about it. What you focus on expands! Thoughts become things. Energy flows where your attention goes. Get it!

If you’re thinking negative thoughts about anything, the more energy you put into it the more you get the results you fear. Job said, ‘that which I fear I brought upon myself.’ Learn this lesson and change your thought habits. It’s said, “worry is negative goal setting.”

That is a profound statement. We bring about whatever we think about! Like attracts like! Birds of a feather flock together! What we focus on we become! Why plan for disaster? Stop it! Plan to make it better! People who experience anxiety, anger issues, and depression have learned to point their mind in certain less-than-glorious directions more than in another positive direction.

It isn’t their fault. It’s not your fault but you’ve learned to do this for whatever the reasons. We all were born and grew up adopting mindsets, practices, beliefs, principles, likes and dislikes and habits of those around us. That said, that is what was. Either you perpetuate what was or your rise up, take charge and decide what will be instead. Victim or Victor? Dog shit or Diamonds? Your choice.

All of us can learn to point our minds in more productive directions using the approaches I’ve been describing for decades. People, countless thousands prove it worked for them and it can work for you! Will you continue as you have been or will you become a victor? Will you start enjoying diamonds or continue living with dog shit! AND THEN YOU DIE. STOP! Don’t accept that! Change.
