“Anxiety is a habitual response to certain triggers. To feel anxious one must be thinking, imagining, and saying to oneself certain things. The feelings seem to arise outside of control but you weren’t born with anxiety. You learned to feel it in certain situations.

This means you can change it, manage or control it. You can end it and learn to respond with choice, instead of react from former habit. How you end the day is just as important as how you begin the day, as in Tip 1. Doing these things nightly can bring you great relief.

Decide to make and keep a good sleep routine. Create your sleep space as a sacred space. Make it slightly cool. Make it as close to pitch black as possible. Turn the alarm clock away from you. No light is best. Use the bed only for sleep. No TV. Don’t read in bed. And…

Relax – Refresh – Renew – Recharge –  Mind – Heart – Body

Okay, sex is okay. The point is keep your space for sleep. If you want to read or watch TV either do it in another room or in a chair. When ready go to bed.  Turn OFF your phone. No electronics. The best practice suggests no electronics at least 1 hour prior to bed time.

The hours you sleep differ according to experts. Some suggest 7 or 8 uninterrupted hours. Others suggest split shifts of 4,  Then wake-up for a while and then another 4 hour shift. Only do this if this is what you already do. Get as much sleep as necessary to feel refreshed.

Relax with a bath or meditation prior to sleep. Breathe and let go. Calm yourself. Make it a pleasant, wonderful ritual to fall asleep. Review the wins of the day. Review what you’re grateful for and feel blessed. How you close the day is as important as how you begin it.

Let Go – Stop -Drop It – Release – Let Go – Breathe – Release

When you feel sleepy in the evening turn in. Unwind and go to sleep. Pay attention to your body’s signals. You’re sleepy so sleep. The better rest you get the better you’ll feel during the day. Learning to relax, calm yourself and settle down, even sleep, is a good way to manage stress, anxiety, panic and overwhelm. Train yourself to let it go. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
