“In 2014 Japanese researchers studied the health benefits of forest walking on cardiovascular reactivity. They concluded people who went for a 15 minute walk in a forest experienced less anxiety, felt better or had better moods and lower heart rates than those who took a 15 minute walk in urban environments.

The vice-chair and professor of the Department of Psychology, at UC Riverside states, “Just the very act of being outdoors impacts your mood…being in nature lowers blood pressure and heart rate, and reduces stress hormones,” She said you don’t have to go to the forest. Just walking in a quiet neighborhood has benefits.

You might make time for walking and even meditate while you walk. It’s one of my favorite things to do. Focus on the movement of your arms or feet, or the breath entering and exiting your body while you walk. If distracted bring your mind gently back to attending to the movement of your arms, feet or breath. It works wonders.

Change Your Thoughts And You Transform Your Life

Let go and go for a walk. Smell the air. Listen to the nature sounds. Feel the breeze. Notice the space between trees, plants and structures. Free yourself up. Bath yourself in the quiet. Walk barefoot where possible and safe. Commune with nature. Let it touch and heal your soul, mind, heart and body. Enjoy the walk. Get quiet for a while. Let nature nurture you. Celebrate everything!” Rex Sikes
